Bio

When I was an undergraduate student at a state school in Connecticut, I learned something that our UMA students continue to reinforce as one of the most basic truths of learning: It鈥檚 not just the education; it鈥檚 what you do with it!

As an online instructor here at UMA, helping students to connect with each other as well as to connect with their instructor and the content of a course is an integral component to successful learning! My role in the online courses I teach is as a facilitator as much as an instructor, and I am always learning from students as well. Teaching at a distance can be demanding and time-consuming, but the mix of students in our Library program from Maine, the United States and around the world is eclectic! Each year at graduation to see our students receive their degrees and to be able to share in that moment is rewarding!

I completed my Ph.D. in Information Science at Drexel University. My concentration is on system design and information seeking behavior. My dissertation, 鈥淭he Impact of Concept Map Visualizations on the Information Behavior, Perceptions of Performance, Learning and Use of Novices in the Information Retrieval Context鈥 is available (for the interested) at iDEA: Drexel E-repository and Archives

As a member of 天美传媒 Information and Library Science program I am interested in undergraduate education in library science and library support staff issues and helping the wider library field recognize that education in library science at any level is a means to better serving our patrons! My work has been published in various journals and presented at national and international conferences as well as here locally in New England.
